The PATA-Hawaii Chapter is counting down to the 2011 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders Meeting. In a few weeks, the heads of twenty-one Asia Pacific member economies will converge on our state for a series of meetings designed to foster growth and prosperity throughout the region by facilitating economic cooperation as well as expanding trade and investment.
Gregg Yamanaka, President and CEO of APEC 2011 Hawaii, a non-profit corporation, will talk about the preparation leading up to this momentous event as well as provide insight into what the travel industry, as well as our guests, can expect.
Jasmine Tso will share a preview of the marketing and public relations initiatives the APEC Hawaii Host Committee has developed in positioning Hawaii as an attractive place for business and economic investment in anticipation of the 20,000+ incoming APEC attendees this November.

What would we do in the event of a crisis? How is the state prepared to assist stranded travelers?Dozens of people from Oahu’s tourism and business communities spent a recent lunch hour learning from experts on how to better prepare for the next disaster to hit Hawaii. The Pacific Asia Travel Association (Hawaii chapter) themed its monthly luncheon around how to manage and prepare for a crisis.

February 28, 2011: The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and PATA Hawaii Chapter, in cooperation with the Hawaii State Department of Transportation – Airports Division, organised the installation ceremony of name plaques in the PATA Gallery of Legends at the Honolulu International Airport. The ceremony was conducted to honour Walter Elias Disney, founder of Walt Disney Company and Disneyland, and General Chalermchai Charuvastra, founder of the Tourist Organisation of Thailand, for their significant contribution to the development of travel and tourism in the Asia Pacific region.

Over 80 travel industry professionals gathered for PATA-Hawaii Chapter’s April luncheon held at the Hawaii Prince Hotel in Waikiki. Among them was Ms. Barbara Bryant, PATA Regional Director-North America & Hawaii, who gave a short address at the beginning of the program. Featured at the event was guest speaker Mark B. Dunkerley, President & CEO of Hawaiian Airlines, who discussed new opportunities for his company in light of difficult economic conditions impacting the U.S. airline industry and its associated impacts on Hawai`i’s tourism industry.
